Fly Fishing
in Xcalak
Once
they have discovered Xcalak, fly fishers return again and again. They
come to catch
their first bonefish...or the most bonefish...or their biggest
bonefish...and they do.
They come to realize their dream of catching a permit. They come
back to catch
bigger permit. They come seeking a “grand slam”: permit,
tarpon, and bonefish. They return to see the beauty of Chetumal
Bay again, to fish in relative isolation. The fish are here.

Early morning departure from our dock.

Guy was wading in front of Casa Carolina when he caught this permit.

When
is the best time to fish? If you look at the dates under the pictures of our
guests’ grand slams in our Fly Fishing
photo gallery, you’ll see that it’s all year!
We’ll
reserve a guide for you who has probably been fishing these waters his whole
life. We are glad to make those arrangements for our guests. Your guide will
know where the fish are. It is a good idea to reserve a guide before
you get here.
But
you can also walk the flats and catch bonefish in front of Casa Carolina.
Our guests have even caught permit right here!
